Kochi Prefecture Museum

The Kochi Prefectural Museum of Art is the first full-scale museum in Kochi Prefecture that opened in 1993. The exterior of the building is Japanese, but the main collection is a print by Marc Chagall (1887-1985).
The museum continued to collect Chagall's works based on the exhibition base of more than 800 Chagall prints donated by Isao Okawa. Today, it forms the Chagall collection, which is attracting international attention and consists of 5 oil paintings and about 1,200 prints.
Chagall was born into a Jewish family in imperial Russia (now the Republic of Belarus). After that, he was an artist who deepened his art while overcoming various hardships such as two world wars, persecution by the Nazi government, asylum in the United States, and the death of his beloved wife Bella.
Bella was a muse for Chagall. Chagall's work can be said to be "a crystal of a love story spun by Bella and her." Chagall is now synonymous with the Museum of Art, Kochi.
Ryoma's birthplace memorial hall

Born in 1835, Ryoma Sakamoto is one of the most popular figures in Japanese history. He was made into a drama in 1968 and 2010 by NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation)'s "Taiga Drama" and had a high audience rating. The hero "Ryoma" at the end of the Edo period was assassinated at the young age of 33.The biggest attraction of Ryoma is that he moved the key person by drawing a vision of Japan's modern nation from a free position as a part-time worker. However, the secret of national popularity lies in his free and unique ideas and the innocent character loved by everyone regardless of age or sex.
A memorial hall that introduces the families and towns that form the basis of Ryoma Sakamoto's human formation was opened in March 2004 at the birthplace of Ryoma (Kamimachi, Kochi City). In the exhibition hall, the state and history of the town at that time, from the birth of Ryoma to the dappan, are introduced in an easy-to-understand manner with images and models focusing on boyhood. In addition, there are historic sites related to Ryoma in the surrounding area, and you can feel Ryoma throughout the town.Let's experience the world of the boy "Ryoma"!
Kochi Castle History Museum

Kochi Prefectural Kochi Castle History Museum is a museum that houses and displays 67,000 valuable materials from the Tosa domain lord Yamauchi family and historical materials related to the Tosa domain and Kochi prefecture.
You can learn the history while enjoying the exhibition of real materials from adults to children through hands-on exhibits, videos, media equipment, etc. In addition, various special exhibitions and events are held throughout the year according to themes and seasons. I use a year-round pass because the contents of the exhibition change from season to season. The top floor is an observatory lobby with a panoramic view of the Pursuit Gate and Kochi Castle. However, the most popular thing for tourists is to wear the large armor displayed at the venue, put on a jinbaori coat, and take a commemorative photo. A Taiwanese friend who visited the museum two years ago is still pleased, saying, "I forgot what was on display at the museum, but the helmet and jinbaori were wonderful."
Kochi Prefectural Sakamoto Ryoma Memorial Hall

The Sakamoto Ryoma Memorial Hall is a memorial hall that can be said to be the "Ryoma Hall of Fame", which displays valuable historical materials related to the national hero "Ryoma Sakamoto" in an easy-to-understand manner, and also introduces personalities, achievements, and ways of thinking. It opened on November 15, 1991, Ryoma's birthday, and was renewed and grand-opened in April 2018.
While the "Ryoma's Birthplace Memorial Hall" in Kochi City introduces the families and towns that form the basis of Ryoma's human formation as the main theme, the "Sakamoto Ryoma Memorial Hall" located in Katsurahama introduces the life of "Ryoma" in Japan through the reproduction of Ryoma's letters and the assassinated room, the historical background of the time, and Ryoma's relationships.
Another feature of the Sakamoto Ryoma Memorial Hall is that it is built in the scenic Katsurahama Park and offers a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean horizon from the blank stage and rooftop.
Why don't you wash your life while watching the Pacific Ocean horizon with Ryoma?
